Bidding:

To bid at an auction, you must register. It’s fast, easy, free and without any obligation. By registering, you are representing that you have read and agree to all Shipping and Sales Conditions, including that you are at least 21 years of age and are registering with true and correct information.

A bid is considered your commitment to buy. If you win an auction, you have agreed to buy the wine. Simply click the “Bid Live” button next to any lot to enter your maximum bid. At any time, you may view your bid history and/or increase your maximum bid by going to the “My Account”

Your maximum bid reflects the most you are willing to pay for the lot. When placing a maximum bid, it must be equal to or higher than the bid increment for the lot (see table below). The increment amount is determined by the current bid. If your maximum is outbid, we will notify you via email so that you have an opportunity to raise your maximum bid before the auction ends. If your maximum is outbid, we will notify you via email so that you have an opportunity to raise your maximum bid before the auction ends. 10% Buyer’s Premium on winning bids will be added to each lot.

Bottle Terms

Base Of Neck Or Higher

If no fill level is indicated, that means that it is at the base of the neck of the bottle or higher. We consider anything that is in the neck to be a perfect fill level for any bottle of any age.

Very Top Shoulder

Indicates either a slightly low fill at the time of bottling and/or a slight natural reduction due to an easing of cork and evaporation through the cork and the capsule. This is an excellent fill level for any wine more than 20 years old. Top shoulder levels are acceptable for all wines.

Top Shoulder

On the high slope of the shoulder, this is an acceptable and normal fill level for wines 15 years of age and older. It is a very good fill level for wines 35 years of age and older.

Mid Shoulder

Suggests that ullage has dropped during the life of the wine due to easing of the cork and/or inconsistent storage conditions. This may be normal for a wine that is 40 years old or older.

Low Shoulder

This occurs in older wines. Low shoulder levels may carry some risk or weakening of the cork.

Labels

Inspectors may note either a light or heavy label condition issue. This may refer to, but is not limited to, labels that are bubbled, faded, folded, loose, nicked, scuffed, soiled, stained, tissue stained, torn, worn, wrinkled, and when a label has writing on it that was not originally placed there by the producer.

Capsules

Inspectors may note either a light or heavy capsule condition issue. This may refer to, but is not limited to, capsules that are chipped, corroded, cracked, missing, nicked, oxidized, scuffed, soiled, stained, torn, worn, and wrinkled.

Seepage

Inspectors may note the slow escape of wine due to natural cork lifecycle or storage conditions.

No Warranties On Auction Items

Unless otherwise disclosed, buyers should expect that all wine at auction has been inspected and pre-approved for label condition, bottle fill level, cork condition, capsule condition, and color by the inspector. EXCEPT FOR SUCH INSPECTION AND PRE-APPROVAL AND EXCEPT AS EXPRESSLY PROVIDED OTHERWISE HEREIN, ALL WINE ISSUED IS SOLD “AS IS.” While every attempt has been made to describe all property at auction as accurately as possible, Charleston Wine Auction does not warrant or represent, and denies responsibility for, the accuracy of the descriptions, encompassing but not limited to vintage, provenance, authenticity, quality and condition as may be stated on the site. All statements made relating to the property offered on the site are merely statements of opinion and at no time can be construed as warranties and representations of fact or assumption of any liability on the part of Charleston Wine Auction. SHIPMENT OF AUCTION LOTS

All purchased auction items will be shipped to the Buyer from our Napa California warehouse after receiving payment for the purchase price and pre-paid shipping charges.  Buyer may also arrange to pick up the wine from our Napa Warehouse

We ship to any state in the US where it is legally allowable to do so. As shipping laws change on a near daily basis, please contact us for a more detailed listing for your state. At this time, we cannot ship to Mississippi and Utah. Please note that most states regulate importation of wines, and buyers are responsible for compliance with laws of the state in which wines are to be shipped. Buyers, not Charleston Wine Auction, are the owners and shipper of record for all shipments. By arranging for transportation of the wine, we are providing a service to and acting on behalf of the buyer. If we are unable to ship to your destination state, please contact us to explore the availability of other nearby states that we may be able to ship to.

Some states deter us from being able to ship using regular shipping companies. However, we can in most instances utilize a third-party shipping service that holds a valid license to ship into these regions.  If a buyer lives in a state where the direct shipment of wine by Charleston Wine violates the law, we suggest that the buyer provide an alternative address in another state or have their wine shipped to a third-party storage facility in a direct shipping-friendly state. You must be 21 years of age to purchase alcoholic beverages and an adult signature is required for all purchases. A street address is required for all shipments (we cannot ship to PO boxes).
